Two markets in one region
Veneto is Italy's leading region for tourist overnight stays: in 2024 it recorded 73.5 million overnight stays, up 2.2% on the previous year. There are 3,133 hotels with 108,992 rooms. Alongside hotels there is a very large open-air sector: 181 sites with over 228,000 beds, 17.7% of Italy's open-air capacity, which in 2023 accounted for 28.3% of the region's overnight stays.
Venice and the art cities: hotels open all year
Hotels in Venice and the art cities work all year, with demand shifting month by month between leisure, events and business travel. Here the annual income statement comes too late: you need to see revenue by department, GOP and GOPPAR every month, compared with last year and with the budget.
- Monthly GOPPAR and GOP margin, to see whether extra revenue turns into margin.
- Cost per occupied room and payroll ratio, month by month.
- Distribution commissions read in the rooms department, to see what each channel costs.
- Groups with several hotels: reports per property with the same rules and allocation of shared costs.
The coast: Jesolo, Cavallino-Treporti, Bibione
On the Veneto coast, from Jesolo to Cavallino-Treporti and Bibione, are some of the largest campsites and holiday villages in Italy, with thousands of places across pitches, mobile homes and apartments, plus pools, restaurants and shops. The season usually runs from May to September and is largely sold between October and March.
- Revenue per pitch and per rental unit, by type and by period.
- Unit and pitch margins compared: mobile homes need investment, maintenance and cleaning that pitches do not, and their margin must be measured separately.
- Services read as departments: restaurants, shop, entertainment and pools with their own revenue and costs.
- Budget before selling: price lists and unit mix decided with last season's numbers already restated.
